Q: Where can I learn about current immigration laws?
I have a debate about immigration on Saturday (May 6) and I would like to find some information on the current immigration laws. Specifically as they apply to those who enter, work, and attend school illegally. Please provide sources. I do not want to debate with you guys about immigration, I just want the facts about the law. Most informative gets 10 points. Thanks.

A: haha i guess the great americans that answer yahoo questions dont know!! But ask them about illegals and they will all jump to answer. http://library.findlaw.com/immigration-law/index.html

Q: What do the current immigration laws and regulations state about illegal immigrants living in the U.S ?
How would you change current laws?

A: Immigration regulation in the US can be read about here: http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/lawsregs/index.htm This is the former agency many know as the INS (Immigration and Naturalization Services) There really isn't much WE can do as a country to change the law per se....much of the "problem" as it is called, involves illegal immigration from Mexico and Fox is in little hurry to do much about the way the government is run there in terms of creating the impetus for illegal immigration.... By the way, it already IS ILLEGAL to hire undocumented workers.....the ONUS IS ON THE BUSINESSES to ensure their future employees are eligible to work....that was the purpose of the I-9 form.

Q: What is it about current immigration laws that is not "comprehensive"?
The current laws were made under the same situation that exists today (to many illegals). Congress argued and argued and Reagan pardon all the illegals that were here at that time. Congress finally passed the "green card" laws and that was supposed to solve the problem. WHAT NOW???????

A: that they are not enforced

Q: Where can I find a list of the current immigration laws?
I have browsed many government websites and find them all ridiculously confusing. My need seems simple to me: a list of the laws for immigration, such as if is still a quota system in use, et cetera. However, I haven't been able to find a stitch of information! Where can I find these laws?

A: Try www.uscis.gov

Q: What are the protests about? and what are current immigration laws?
I am a very political person and usually I am on top of these thing but I have been busy lately and didn't get a chance to read or watch anything on it (even though it's been every where). Also I usually stick to economic versus social issues. Can you tell me what they want, why, and what's preventing them? Also can you inform me of current immigration laws, why aren't these people citizens or have visas, why are they here illegally in the first place? (since it seems many people legally become citizens from india and poland each year, and it's not like the mexican government is preventing them from leaving) Only serious answers please, just give me the facts. Thank you

A: To the best of my knowledge the only reason for this huge " boycott " is two parts, first and foremost, it is suppose to show, I guess members of government, how much we "depend" on immigrants, and how things would be rough here if they werent here. So basically they are wanting the same rights for the illegal immigrants that legal workers have, ie; insurance, benefits, overtime, stuff like that if I am correct. The second thing is to draw attention to the huge platform of hispanics in the way of votes, to show governmentt hat theirs is a huge vote potential that they are trying to basically bargain with, again if I am reading stuff correctly. As far as current immigration laws, i am not up-todate on all of them, but you can apply for a work visa, here and not be a citizen of the US, you can get a student visa, and not be a citizen. The reason they arent citizens, is because they wont or dont want to go through the process to become a citizen, I think it can take upto 2 yrs. They come over here, illegally, due to the fact that there are so many people who would pay them 5 or 6 dollars an hour, rather than pay a person 10 or 12 an hour. They sneak over here, to take these farm, ranch, industry type things, that they say americans wont do, and they take their money and send it back to mexico, and yet they want or try to get medicaid, foodstamps, free hospitalization etc.. and give nothing back, they pay no taxes, they file no taxes, because its usually under the board. The mexican government isnt going to STOP them from leaving, whyy would they, the people send money down there, and it goes into there economy. I hope I wasnt too far off base

Q: Can anyone help me find information to help me outline current immigration laws, opposed to proposed laws?
I am in need of some direction toward locating more information on our current immigration laws as well as the two popular bills now in congress. U.S. immigration laws...

A: Heres A Summary Of HR 4437 http://www.justiceforimmigrants.org/HR4437.html

Q: What is your stand on the US policy regarding current immigration laws?
If you believe that all illegals should be deported, why do you think this? Support your opinion please.

A: i dont think that they should, they help the us too. tell me what kind of american would have a "dirty job" like illegal immigrants take! ? they pay taxes, and i know they do!! they do everithing else american! y should they be kicked off because they were not born on this side of the line???

Q: Who is to blame for the current immigration laws not being enforced?
My first guess is the executive branch of the goverment.

A: "Blame?" Immigration is the biggest non-problem that people have cared about the Swine flu epidemic. Almost no one's safety or finances are threatened by illegal immigration. Is there anyone out there who lost there job as a migrant worker? How about Dish washer? The thing we should be blaming people for is the horrible things that happen to illegals (violence, sexual abuse, underpayment, etc.) and for the economic disparity that forces people to illegally immigrate into our country in the first place. But then, I don't know who to blame for that.

Q: Do you think the Fed will actually start enforcing current immigration laws?
Or do you think they will be satisfied with the status quo and not do anything? What are your thoughts? Thanks to most who answered. To those who began with "the question should be".... I asked the question. Answer it or move on. Thumbs down and no best answer for you. Jeff-I haven't forgotten

A: I think we need to pressure them to do it. Call your senators fax them everything tell them we want the border secured NOW.

Q: How do current immigration laws protect immigrants from exploitation?
I would appreciate it if you cite specific laws! Thanks

A: Legal immigrants are protected by the same laws that protect the rest of us. (occupational safety and health act) (Wage and hour regulations, both state and federal) (Social security benefits) (Workman's compensation and unemployment benefits) We don't have a need to pass more laws (and shouldn't do so) to protect those here illegally.

Q: Are you going to start calling your reps demanding that they enforce our current immigration laws?
The bill is dead. Is it time that we call and demand that they enforce our existing laws? We have laws on the books...do we not?

A: You are preaching to the choir baby. I have a list of every traitor in my district and i am voting against all of them in the next election cycle.

Q: Should current immigration laws in the United States should be enforced?
If you could add your sources that would be awesome. Thanks /\/\ Sorry for not being precise when I said sources. I need sources to places where I can find the laws. If you can that would be great, if you cant, your opinion is welcome as well

A: Yes, they should. Sources concerning what? Illegal Immigration? Links to immigration law? I am a little confused here, but I will help as best as I can. http://www.cis.org/ http://www.fairimmigration.com/ http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/index.htm http://www.diversityalliance.org/ http://www.usbc.org/ http://latinoamericans.org/ http://dontspeakforme.org/ http://www.alipac.us/ http://ncciamerica.org/ http://www.hispanicsforsecureborders.org/ http://www.numbersusa.org/ http://www.immigrationshumancost.org/

Q: Is it really that hard to enforce our current immigration laws?
It honesty makes me think that our glorious government is run by a bunch of chimps.

A: It's not hard, but in this "Politically Correct" climate we live in, the politicians are too scared about offending hispanics and losing their votes. Thus, nothing gets accomplished. BUT, the good news is that the American people are finally making their voices heard, NO AMNESTY and ENFORCE THE BORDERS! The politicians better listen to the majority or they won't get re-elected.

Q: Would it be wrong for the US government to deport all illegal aliens and enforce current immigration laws?

A: It would be silly. Take 10 million people out of the economy tomorrow and the result would be.... I don't think you need an econ degree (eventhough I got one) to see that the result would be bad. So I don't want immigrants deported because it will hurt me (thus making it wrong for me).

Q: Would you support an investigation into why our current immigration laws aren't being enforced?
Activists who helped defeat the immigration plan say they will return to Washington to lobby for a criminal investigation into the government's failure to enforce existing immigration laws. "We plan to return to Washington in the next week or two, and light up the phone lines again," said William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration-PAC, a key partner in the grass-roots campaign to defeat the Senate immigration plan. "We're going to put pressure on Congress, not to stop a bill, but to demand that Congress launch an immediate investigation into the White House to determine what criminal prosecutions may be warranted relating to not enforcing our existing laws," he said. "It's not for the president to decide what laws to obey or enforce. That's not what presidents do. That's what kings do," he said. Would this help wake up the government to enforce the law? http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=56557 TY for the link SoftTSoul. Rogers, AR has applied for a grant to train officers there to assist ICE in identifying and detaining illegal aliens in NW Arkansas. An illegal shot and wounded a cop there, was taken by ICE to TN for court, volunteered to deport but never reported back to Mexico. The laxity of the law as applied to illegal aliens needs investigated and tightened.

A: YES ! Wouldn`t it be a hoot if the bias` liberal media had to report on the investigative hearings of Congress investigating Congress . The first defendant should be Ted Kennedy , as he sponsored all 7 Illegal Amnesty Bills` over the last 21 years , and has never once demanded any of them be enforced ? Or ; Do like The Great State of Oklahoma has just done . Their State government has passed a no nonsense Anti Illegal Bill that stops` all funding of all programs for non US citizens ! All documentation will be checked for validity . If one is found to have forged ID and using a Social Security that has not been directly issued by the US Government or any false documents pertaining to them getting anything free from a government program, then they will deported !!!! Businesses` that support the hiring of Illegals are subject to strict rules`, and punishment for hiring an Illegal !
